Why We Made Our Oolong Tea Bags 20% Larger

You might have noticed that most tea companies don't sell premium whole-leaf oolongs in tea bags.

In fact, it's quite rare.

That's because oolong tea behaves differently than many other teas. The tightly rolled leaves need room to unfurl as they steep, revealing the complex flavours and aromas that make oolong so beloved by tea enthusiasts.

That's why we're excited to introduce our new oolong tea bags - made with our signature plant-based compostable material and now 20% larger than our standard size.

Why Tea Bag Size Matters

To fully enjoy the complexity of a traditional oolong, the leaves need space to bloom, open up, and relax during steeping.

Many premium oolongs are sold exclusively in loose-leaf format for this reason. As the leaves unfurl, they release layers of floral, fruity, woody, and naturally sweet notes that simply can't develop as well when they're tightly packed.

Most oolong tea bags on the market use smaller cut-grade leaves that steep quickly but lack the depth and character of traditional whole-leaf oolongs.

At Pluck, we wanted to offer the convenience of a tea bag without compromising on quality.

A Custom Solution

For years, we wanted to bring whole-leaf oolongs to our tea community in tea bag format, but the standard tea bag size was simply too small.

So we worked directly with our tea bag manufacturer to create a custom tea pyramid size specifically for oolong teas.

The result is a tea bag that's 20% larger than our existing pyramids, giving the leaves the space they need to expand fully during infusion.

At first glance, the bag may look a little empty.
