At Pluck, we believe that great tea doesn’t just taste good, it should do good too.

That’s why we’ve spent the last decade reimagining what a sustainable tea company can be. From upcycled ingredients and plastic-free packaging to direct farm partnerships and compostable tea bags, every step we take is rooted in purpose and steeped with care.

Here’s how we’re steeping sustainability into everything we do.

Plant-based compostable tea bags

Most tea bags still rely on petroleum-based plastics like polypropylene or polyethylene, materials that take centuries to break down.

Not ours.

Pluck’s pyramid tea bags are made with soilon, a 100 percent plant-based, non-GMO mesh that’s certified compostable. They break down in as little as 3 to 5 days in municipal compost facilities, and unlike traditional plastic tea bags, they leave no trace behind. No plastic, no staples, no compromises.

And because packaging waste isn’t just about what you use, but how much you use, we’ve gone one step further. We’re proudly plastic-negative. Through our partnership with CleanHub, we remove twice the plastic we produce. Learn more about CleanHub.

Upcycling, the Delicious Way

We partner with Canadian juice makers and chocolate producers to reclaim high quality by-products such as dried citrus peels and cacao shells. These ingredients are repurposed into flavourful, distinctive blends, cutting down food waste and giving delicious, premium ingredients a second life.

Direct Sourcing and Strong Relationships

We believe in knowing where our tea comes from, and working with farms that share our values.

That’s why we source directly from certified organic and Rainforest Alliance certified farms in Japan and Rwanda, and from Canadian farms here at home. In Kagoshima, Japan, our matcha partner is a vertically integrated family-run operation that upcycles tea stems into organic fertilizer and uses zero chemical pesticides. In Rwanda, we contribute 50 cents per kilogram of tea purchased back to the local foundation, which supports clean water, education, and childcare for tea workers.

By directly sourcing, we have reduced the amount of time and transportation it takes for tea to go from farms to your cup. This ensures you’ll always have the freshest tea whenever you order from us.

Proudly made in Canada to reduce emissions

Blending and packing everything in-house at our skylight-lit Toronto facility means we can reduce emissions, cut down on transportation, and control quality, without compromising on freshness or flavour.

We also introduced and continue to lead a building-wide recycling program. Our facility was designed with energy-efficient LED lighting because sustainability starts at home.

Whenever possible, we source our shipping boxes, cartons and pouches from other Canadian small businesses. This helps us reduce the overall carbon footprint while supporting fellow Canadian businesses like ours.

Since launching these initiatives, we’ve:

• Removed 7,922 kg of ocean-bound plastic waste

• Diverted hundreds of kilograms of food waste

• Protected over 40 hectares of certified organic tea fields

• Eliminated thousands of single-use plastic tea bags

• Supported tea workers through clean water and education programs
