Food Safety and Pluck Tea

Food Safety and Pluck Tea

At Pluck we truly care about the health of our customers and the planet. Providing the safest, cleanest teas possible is what we do. No detail is too small - just ask our suppliers! From first contact to our latest shipment, we ask a LOT of questions.

All of our ingredients are vetted for freshness, safety, and compliance with the highest standards of quality from farm to cup.

But don't take our word for it... we are so proud to share our most recent food safety audit with you right here - where we earned one of the highest scores our auditor had ever seen... 98.93%!

Pluck Tea Food SafetyNow, tea is quite rightly considered the healthiest and lowest risk beverage on the planet. While it is almost unheard of for there to be food safety concerns with tea, (largely because it is steeped in piping hot water prior to consumption) residues on tea leaves or herbal ingredients from pesticides, herbicides, and heavy metals (such as lead) can end up in your cup.

This is why we take extra care at Pluck to get to know our suppliers personally, ask a lot of questions, visit them as much as possible, randomly spot check ingredients at an independent lab.

In our light - filled Toronto tea facility, our team blends our loose leaf teas by hand, which ensures we can verify quality every step of the way. Many other tea companies use large mechanical blenders, which prevent visual checks.

From there, loose teas are weighed and packed into food safe packaging with a unique and traceable lot number. Tea destined to fill tea bags is diverted to our tea bag machine which forms our pyramid bags using a fully compostable, plastic - free material.

All of these steps mean our tea may cost a little more, but we believe the health of our customers (and the planet) is worth it. We really wouldn't have it any other way.

To your good health,

Jennifer and the Pluck team.
